I remember when ...

Is it just a sign of getting old?? See, I remember when I was young enough to go to night clubs ... my friend and I would plan all day what we would wear ... maybe pop into town to buy something new ...  ... afternoons were spent in my bedroom painting nails ... washing and drying our hair ... laughing and having fun ...  we would apply our make up .... Yep, I was there when false eye lashes were fashionable the first time around ... All this preening was part of the fun ...  once we were "gorgeous" ... off we went ... usually on the bus (couldn't afford taxis then) ... We would buy one drink and dance the night away.
I know times change ... things move on ... but we would NEVER be seen outside of our bedroom with our hair rollers in!!! Now it seems it is the fashionable thing to do ... walk around everywhere with your hair in rollers ... the bigger the better ... and boy are they big! I am slowly becoming less shocked and can at least now walk past one of these women without my jaw dropping ...
I was brought up in an era when guys were supposed to think you actually woke up with beautiful locks ...  your skin was always blemish free and your eye lashes long and lustrous ... and girls 'never' grew hair anywhere but on their heads. Mystery was everything ... we were 'ladies'.
Well, this afternoon around 5pm, I was in one of our large chemist stores ... you know the kind that have lots of make up counters and staff from the various companies are waiting to serve you, even apply their brand of make up on you FREE whilst you sit in the chair ... Now, I have never done that ... sat in full view of the world being 'made up' ... I'd be too embarrassed ... not that I'm knocking anyone who does ... but this evening I was totally shocked to see just how many young women were actually queueing to get their full make up done ... wearing a full head of Rollers!!! Obviously this is the thing to do ... you get someone to apply your make up for you for free and hey presto one less thing to do before you go out ... What happened to sitting in your room with your best friend ??
Rant over ...
I have a card to share made for the Jingle Belles Rock challenge  ...  this week is a sketch challenge set by the talented AmyTsuruta ...

I struggled this week ... it seems when I had time to create ... my creative side chose to abandon me ...
So here's my card ...

I was so thankful for the sketch ... it got me through
and though my background looks like black card ... it is actually dark blue

you can't really see but each of the snowflakes on my DP have sparkly centres .. done with stickles
Well that's it for now ... I'm off to put my rollers in

Till soon

oof! you've really taken me back there to my teens: putting on make up...listening to RECORDS (or GASP! 8-track tapes!!!) thinking about which boys would be there and who would ask you to dance or maybe even...DRIVE YOU HOME! :) :) :) that was a lifetime ago, but as nostalgic as i feel, i would NOT trade and be a teenager now...not for the perfect skin, teeny waistline...not even if you PAID ME. phew!!!

speaking of gorgeous things...YUM! what a pretty, sparkly, ELEGANT card this is! i don't think it was your mojo deserted you missus, just maybe your eyes are tired?! i think when you look at this tomorrow morning you're gonna ♥LOVE♥ it as much as i do!!!

Such a pretty card- at least you're on your way with card making for next Christmas! I too think the hair roller thing is bizarre. I just couldn't!!! I'd love the time to preen and prepare--- one day!! X

Lol, I use to work on those counters and yes that's what they do. It use to make me laugh because they had no intention of buying anything.

Love reading your story, the funny thing is, I never have that "disco" stage, or you'd called it night club days, but when I look back, I really never miss anything.
This is a wonderful card Ros, so perfect for the sketch!!

I chuckled at your hair roller story...I haven't seen that yet but the 'kids' like to wear their pajama pants...outdoors..like to the grocery store! Good grief...

Your post really took me back in time a bit as well, it´s exactly like you said, we would dress up, go into the bathroom, put our make-up on, do our hair, we just HAD to make sure that we were dressed up to the nines, otherwise we wouldn´t even THINK of going out! Such a shame all of this romance is gone, anyway, we are the fortunate ones actually, for we´re the ones with those happy memories!
Love your stitched up X-card, nice colours! Have a great Sunday, such a perfect day for a little musing...

A lovely walk on memory lane with you. I know exactly what you mean; and your story made me laugh out loud. It's lovely to go back a few years ( well not years; decades....!!!)and yes...i can see myself sitting in my bedroom with a few friends. tons of make-up spread all over the room and on top of that loads and loads of clothes. the sweetest days filled with fun and laughter. Today it's a bit diffrent; as a mother of 2 sons I have nothing to share about make-up :)
And when I see all those young girls; did you ever notice them when you can get a free sample of something? They are hoarding everything they can get for free. Even if they don't like the color, brand or smell of that perfume. But it's FREE and so they WANT it.

And me? I have this anti-aging cream, anti wrinkle cream, a mssk to lift it all a bit :). A sort of out of shape...I think we are all coming at a point that we look in the mirror and think oh my....no... but yes....it's there :)

Wellt hat's all i can say about getting a bit older :) But most important is; I am so happy, healthy and privileged. And so I deal with stretch jeans and so on....

Oops almost forgotten; your card! Sigh.....another handmade beauty and I love love love the combo of blue, silver and white...stunning!!!
Have a lovely day dear friend...

Your card is beautiful, Ros! I love the sparkly snowflakes. I like that you are making Christmas cards. I probably should, I just haven't had the time! Your story was so much fun. I used to have long hair and sit in juice cans under the dryer! We were not allowed out of the bedroom! Now my hair is short and I do not really have to do anything except wash, put gel in and go! I do not see girls in rollers here, just in pajamas. It is fun to look back! Hope you have a wonderful week! and your creating juices get going again!

i love your card. it's lovely. crisp and clean (and i love the stitching :-))
you made me laugh reading about those good old days. we used to call it primping and would spend hours getting gorgeous. although i have to say i'm almost envious of how the young girls now clip up their hair and just go - but at the same time they don't seem to ever primp... where's the fun in that? ;-)

You took me back to my younger years - when yes, getting ready to go out was an event in itself with your girlfriends and music and laughter, styling each other's hair or helping with makeup. Those were WONDERFUL days! Very fond memories.

Now, about this card. This beautiful card, it is so crisp and clean with such a wonderful sentiment and that lovely and simple embellishment. Gorgeous and perfect!

Love your "rant". Although it is true... it is very funny. Your card is fantastic! And love the little touches. It doesn't look like you had a difficult time AT all!
