Taxes and duty ...

Hello there ...

First I need to have a little rant ...
Last week I bought some goods from a very nice company in the USA and the goods were $54 ... these were my TH distress stains and I was delighted with the price as here they would cost me $97 ... The sweet lady charged me just $13.95 postage which was exactly what was on the package ... However,  earlier in the month I ordered from PTI ... not something I do often because the postage charges are so very high ... but I did order .. $52 worth of goods ... postage charges were $32.60 ... then this morning I am hit with a bill from our lovely Inland Revenue for a further $30 duty to pay ... According to them I am lucky I have never had to pay previously when buying from the USA ... it seems that anything I buy .. if it totals more than £18 ... ($28) ... I have to pay duty and taxes ... if I am sent a gift I don't have to pay as long as it is less than £40 ($64) ...
So ... it seems that I am not going to be able to buy from PTI again ... the basic postage rate is just too high ... I will be able to buy from elsewhere as long as their rates are reasonable and I buy less than $28...
On top of that I now have to travel to the depot to pay my taxes and duty before I can have my package ... bummer!! Ok.. rant over

Yesterday,  I mentioned that I had been playing with TH distress inks ... (which I didn't pay taxes on .. shhhh!) and this is my first card ...

The stamp I used is the same stamp I used Here and I followed a tutorial on Shari Carroll's blog Here
Of course I need a lot more practice and have more videos to google and watch ... but I am encouraged by the result ... I made this as a thank you to my Philosophy tutor ... term finishes for me till next September ...

I hope you are having a better day than I am ...

Till soon

~ Ros ~

Que desagradável sobre os impostos... aqui temos muitos impostos também... uma pena.. Mas sentar e fazer scrap tira tudo isso da cabeça, nao é? Estou adorando ver suas lindas tentativas, teu cartão ficou show!!

So frustrating,I know I've been charged 3 times now,it makes it so expensive to order from U.S.when you add the tax on too.

I am so sorry, Ros! I know you dislike taxes as much as I do. Whenever I send something overseas, I try to put that it is a gift. I hope your day will go better. Your card is lovely, I hope it was fun to make. Hugs to you.

Sorry to hear about the postage Ros, I don't know about others, but I do find shipping overseas extremely expensive, I have a few overseas DT, I have to pay nearly 20 every month for each of them. Another reason also e-commerce are computerized, so they charged according to the weight the seller key in, I like to go to the post office and ship it myself and then refund the excess shipping cost charged by the system. In the case that the actual shipping cost higher, I absorbed the cost. oh well, computer are just machine!!!
Ok, so much of those shipping pain, I should tell you that this creation is so unique and lovely!

Beautiful card Ros!

I feel your pain with shipping from PTI.While I love their products I feel their shipping rates are a bit high, compared to other american retailers online. The other retailers tend to ship via weight, which ends up being cheaper. PTI has flat rates and since we are in Canada we have "international posstage". I tend to limit my PTI purchases because no matter if I buy $100 worth of product or $25 worth the shipping is always over $20. It is very frustrating.
Hope you enjoy playing with your TH inks:)

Yes, that's true about buying in the US. In the Netherlands our purchases shouldn't exceed EUR 22,--, otherwise we'll be charged with 19% VAT and possibly import duties as well. You might try to split up your offers to avoid this next time (or better still, compare prices on the internet including all these extra charges and see which deal will be best for you). Anyway, this story probably doesn't make you feel any better, so hopefully this will: I LOVE your card! Such a fabulous result with the inks! (Feeling a little better now ;-) Cheerio, Ira

Well sweetie the shipping costs always kept me from ordering and although there is a lot of PTI on my wishlist I think I will pass. Too expensive. In Europe the postage rates are customer friendly and above €60 you have free shipping in europe at a lot of companies. I would be mad too.
And now your card; If you dont mind I would love to sign ín for a workshop at your house :)
Pure beauty....

Oooh, it does make you mad doesn't it?! What a rip off! The high shipping charges are the one thing that's put me off buying PTI, but I didn't realise the taxes and duty would be so much! Console yourself with the thought you can make beautiful things, and your card is stunningly beautiful!

I really feel for you, Ros. Postage and customs duty are the reasons I don't order from PTI, much as I love their products. You need a US friend to order for you and then send as a gift. :)

Anyways, I love your card, not sure you need any more practice! The stamped image and colours are gorgeous.
