Strong ...

Happy Sunday to you ...

It's a new photo prompt at
Today our lovely Kirsty has chosen the prompt which is
Strong

I thought this was a terrific prompt ... It conjures up so many things and at first I was going to go with some photos I took this week of little black ants burrowing out of the mortar between the flags ... Boy those insects are really strong! They can carry up to 20 times their own weight

But then along came my "little man" a stray cat we've opened our hearts to ... He was looking a little battered and bruised this day - and tired from sleeping rough I guess and the fights that ensue when other tom cats pick on him ... Of course we feed him and offer him a place to sleep which he occasionally accepts ... as he did in this shot

Looking at him"Strong" came into my mind ... I've nursed many sick and ailing cats, dogs, birds - even mice and frogs - thanks to my son - not with any special lotions or potions but with food, shelter and lots of love - It never ceases to amaze me how strong and enduring they are ...

It always distresses me when people think it's ok not to neuter a cat - one un-spayed female cat will be responsible for 20,000 offspring in 5 years given that an average litter is 4 kittens and within 6 months each kitten can go on to have their own litter ... As for the tom cat ... he will always be in combat ... battered and bruised - not a good life ... even if you are not a cat person.

Ok ... enough preaching ... here are some shots of those amazing pesky ants!

I don't mind these so much ... It's the flying ones I really don't like

I'm off to take a look at the blog to see what my fellow team mates have in store for us this week ... why don't you join me and link up your photos this week ... I'd love to see what your interpretations are for Strong ...

Have a lovely day

~ Ros ~

AWWWw, I love to pet him :). He looks adorable, poor him that he has to fight off other big guys on the block. I have 3 indoor cats and believe me that's a handful :).

Oh yes, those black ants are super heroes!. They are hardworking, like the red ants. And the flying ones love to get to the lights on rainy days, not fun to clean up after :).
This is such a sweet post, Ros.

What a handsome fellow!! We have a feral outside cat we have been feeding for about 8 years now, he was just here yesterday, and after 8 years, he still hisses at me when I open the door to put his food out...we have 3 inside rescue cats...I am a cat lover, too...so fun to see the post!!

Lovely photo's Ros. Love the one of your stray boy lapping up some well deserved love and comfort.
My son was exactly the same as yours, bringing every stray and injured insect, bird or animal home for some TLC xx

I rather like this challenge for the Sunday. I would agree with you about a cat being strong - ours died just recently, being a tom-cat, he went through so much and must have been gifted with nine lives as they say!

LOVE your post and I agree about the "fixing" having two cats myself! He is Beautiful and so LUCKY to have you guys to care for him when he needs some TLC! Great choice!

I hear you about those pesky neighborhood tom cats, I have my share of them and my poor kitty suffers the fights, every now and then I let out one of my dogs to run them out!
ants are such amazing creatures and perfect for the word!

How sweet this is, beautiful coloring. My sister just took in a kitten this summer, same coloring as yours. She took her to the vets and fixed her up and spayed her, now this lucky kitten is loved and cuddled everyday by my nieces. It's easy to take care of these little ones that need some love and a warm home to welcome them.

Those ants sure are strong too, great pictures. I like them best when they stay outdoors though.

I haven't posted yet this week but hope to soon.

Lovely photos, what a great way to interpret the theme 'strong' Ros! Hope the ants will not bother you too much (speaking of strong, they certainly are!).

I have mixed feelings about ants. Have you seen mounds of wood ants in woodland. You can hear them in their activities...they are amazing. I do not like flying ants. Any day now :)

Ros thanks for your sweet comment on the images with my grandsons, wonderful photos of your cat, I had a red female cat, sadly she died a ½ year ago, she was a rescued cat her first family moved and left her.
