Gift holder, Bookmark and a little Tip

Hello there ...
I don't think it's ever going to stop raining here ... The garden looks so sad...

I'm a lover of real books, the kind you can hold...not the kindle type...and I have a lot of friends who are like me...
Today I have a little card to share that is just big enough to hold a gift card for a bookstore together with a detachable bookmark, all made from scraps

I started with a piece of  scrap CS that I had sponged with inks and splattered with water and cut out the sentiment and a little banner. The flowers and leaves were stamped and coloured with copics then smooshed in versamark and heat embossed with clear E/P

I used another scrap of the sponged CS for the back part of the bookmark and a scrap of vellum to hold it to the card and to show how it can be used in your book

Here's a TIP for you ... I don't think I've shared this before? Anyway, it's a way of getting more out of your square or rectangle type dies and adding edging to your scrap pieces as I did with the vellum on my card and the longer part of the bookmark

Here you can see the piece of vellum and the die I used (mine is from Lil'inkers rectangles) The die was the length I wanted but not the width but it's so easy to adapt it

First tape your die to one side of the paper, card or vellum you want to cut

and run it through your die cutting machine, you will end up with one shaped side

Lay your die back on aligning to the other side at the distance you want

... run it back through your machine and Voila!

A nicely edged custom sized rectangle - I use this trick a lot particularly on scrap pieces

By the way, the challenge at City Crafter is flags and banners ... check it out

I'm off to see my friend at the nursing home now, bless her she is really struggling and it breaks my heart

Enjoy your day and if you have any sun to share I'd be grateful!

Till soon

That's so pretty! I love your splattery die cut and gorgeous bookmark. Clever the way you slipped it onto the card. I must try out your tip about the die cut, too. Thanks for that! I also love real books. The feel, the smell, the cover art. I do have a Kindle which my hubby gave me for a birthday and it's great for those times I want to read in low light in the living room when Rich is watching TV. Wish I could send you some sunshine. I'm not sure what it's going to do here today. Started out sunny and now it's clouded over. I've got new flowers to plant, so I'm going out there, anyway.

My thoughts are with you & your friend, Ros. I hope she doesn't suffer long & that you have peace. Thank you for the tip--I always forget that can be done. Love your card & bookmark--very creative & beautiful! PS--I'd gladly sen you some of our sun & we really need some of your rain. However, we don't want rain for the Olympic Track & Field trials that are about to begin not far from here.

Oh how very pretty!! Lovely colors as well and a great gift to receive! Funny, but I received a Kindle Fire 2 years ago for Christmas and I have yet to download a book on it and doubt I ever will, I use it just for the internet with my coffee in the mornings..lol. I much prefer to hold a 'real' book in my hands!

Yes still raining here too and gone quite cold this evening...Summer!!! What a fabulous idea making the bookmark and gift card holder. Such a personal and unique gift. The prettiest of colours on the flowers and that gorgeous sentiment die cut. Thanks for the tip on die cutting to the size you actually want...will be filing that one away. Sorry to hear about your friend, it must be heartbreaking x I'd love to send you some sunshine but in very short supply so will send crafty hugs x

Your card is just gorgeous, Ros! The bookmark with flowers is such a fab idea! And, your tip on saving paper is genius! Thanks so much for sharing!:-) I so wish we could trade some sun for some of your rain. We are at least 2-4 inches below our rain level. The crops here really need it! Take care and have a great weekend!

Oh, lovely! And I so agree: I'm a "real book" fan as well... also for being in a book store for hours and getting lost in all those wonders.

I am like you, I just don't know how to read from an ipad, let alone the phone. What a pretty project and how clever to make used of the rectangle die.
So sorry to hear about your friend and the tough time, here at home, I am going through some difficult time of my life too, sigh.....
