A Little Oriental

Good morning friends... I hope you are all safe and well.

Tough times right now and not just with the pandemic, nature is also having her say and my thoughts are with all of you affected by the terrible fires raging in the USA.

Sadly this week, a neighbour passed away very suddenly which is always hard on the family and particularly her two sons who still live at home. Fortunately I did have an appropriate card.

I had been trying my hand a couple of oriental type cards similar to the amazing paintings that often appear on my Pinterest feed and thought this one would be suitable to send to the family

I used distress inks for the background and the sun and the bamboo is stamped. I've a few sets with an oriental theme that have been in my stash for years - I just never really used them much

I drew a few birds with a fineliner and stamped a border to the base of the card

I also tried another one using distress inks

...But I messed up a bit with the sun. I drew the little fishing boat, the tree and the birds and added some acrylic paint in red for the blossom

Although I messed up a little I still like it and I'm hoping to try more of this style

I don't know about you but I'm still struggling a little with this new blogger... I can't seem to get the line spacing right.

Anyway... Thank you for stopping by, have a safe and happy day

~ Ros ~

In blogger, if you want one line right under the next, press the shift key and enter together. I just figured that one out - lol! Now, onto these wonderful cards! They are both stunning! The bright color and soft neutral hues really set the scene. I'm so sorry to hear about your neighbor and especially with sons still at home.

Totally different, but so beautiful! The first card does make a thoughtful sympathy card & reminds me of the oriental type images I have from many yrs ago. Sudden deaths are especially hard to deal with, I think. My neighbor lost his wife from a brain tumor very suddenly. From nothing wrong to dead in a few weeks--so sad.

Wow! These cards are amazing! The sun on the first card looks just like ours these days due to the smoke in the atmosphere. I'm totally in love with your second card. Dang, Ros, it looks just like those China landscapes I see in pictures. You're so good! I'm sorry about your neighbor. Everything seems extra sad lately.

Both cards are beautifully created and one unique in it's own way. I am sure the neighbor will appreciate it and how sad for them. Weather is cooling down here, will miss our summer days...take care my friend!

Ros, now you're talking my language! I adore Asian decor, and these would go right into a frame! I don't think you've 'messed up' one bit! LOve your Japanese Red Maple?
Sorry you needed a sympathy card, but this card will be a beautiful way to send your condolences.

So sorry to hear of your neighbor passing away so suddenly. The family will appreciate your thoughtful hand painted card. Thank you for sharing your 2nd Asian style landscape card. So beautiful and love your Red Maple tree. You are so talented, my friend. Love and Hugs...Nancy

Two beautiful oriental looks to these cards Ros and the first with the bamboo just perfect for a sympathy card, and the wonderful bright tree and setting sun really finishes the scene brilliantly on the second. I was having trouble with the spacing on the new blogger, and I too recently found the shift and enter seem to sort it, so hope this also works for you. x

WOW! Love the sweet Oriental designs! The coloring is perfect and that little boat and the mountains with the pop of acrylic paint is awesome! Little works of art, my friend!

WOW...these are both SO pretty Ros! The natural hues with just a pop of color is absolutely lovely on both of your oriental themed cards. I'm sorry one had to be a sympathy card for your neighbor...my heart breaks for those suffering losses during these trying times. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this type of artwork from you my friend...you always inspire!! Hugs. :0)

Wow, both of your cards have much more Asian-flair than any cards I ever made, Ros! (I'm Japanese in case you don't know.) Both cards are peaceful and calming. Adding your wonderful drawing & painting to the stamped images creates such a beautiful scene.
I wish stamps like the boat and the maple tree you drew and painted were sold somewhere!

Stunning and serene cards! I wouldn't have noticed a problem with the sun. I especially love your second card. I'm sorry to hear about your neighbour. Hugs x

The first card is beautiful and serene and it's the little touches, like the row of dashes that really finish it off.

The second card is a beautiful scene - you are so good with drawing and painting and the sun looks fine to me.

Oh, it appears I am behind on commenting. So sorry to hear about the loss of your neighbor, how sad. You have been busy with creating some beauties, Ros! These oriental cards are stunning! Love the simplicity and pop of color on both of them! They are lovely as can be! Yes, I know what you mean about blogger...the spacing at times can be very frustrating!

Surprising new style but I like it! The fishing scene really is serene - it's soothing somehow. Looking forward to more of that.
